Identifying Power Sources

  1. Dedicated LiFePO4 Battery Pack: Charges only when engine is running (set charging threshold to >13.5V), isolates dashcam from vehicle battery.
  2. Programmable Low-Voltage Cutoff: Set cutoff to 12.2V (or higher for EVs) to disconnect dashcam before BMS detects excessive drain. Note: Never tap into safety system fuses (airbags, ABS, ADAS) or hybrid/EV high-voltage circuits.

Step-by-Step Wiring

  1. Plan wire routes: Run front camera wires along headliner → A-pillar (avoid side curtain airbag seams) → dashboard fuse box. Rear/interior cameras route under door sills.
  2. Connect fuse taps: Match fuse amperage to dashcam specs (usually 2-5A). Reuse original fuses in the piggyback tap’s secondary slot.
  3. Secure wiring: Use adhesive clips every 12-18 inches, tuck excess wire behind trim panels. Avoid pinching wires in moving parts (glove box, steering column).
  4. Mount battery pack/cutoff module in trunk or under seat (away from heat sources).

Parking Mode Setup

Configure dashcam settings post-install:

  • Set parking mode trigger to “ACC off” or “voltage drop below 13V”
  • Adjust G-sensor sensitivity (medium for most urban areas)
  • Enable time-lapse or low-bitrate recording to extend storage/battery life
